CRESTVIEW — Another class of safe boaters is ready to face Florida waters thanks to a Crestview High School teacher.
Ernie Martin was recognized this week for offering one of just two Panhandle school classes teaching America's Boating Course. The other course is at Mosely High School in Panama City.
Fort Walton Sail and Power Squadron commander Dr. Wil Hugli and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission law officer Lt. Mark Hollinhead have presented Martin with commendations for his efforts. The Power Squadron also recognized the high school for its "valuable contribution to recreational boating safety."
Okaloosa County leads the state in boating accidents, but the rate has dropped 15 percent due to education efforts like Martin's, Hollinhead said.
