CRESTVIEW — The Big Red Machine's concert and symphonic bands each scored high during last week’s State Music Performance Assessment.

The concert band achieved an overall superior during the assessment, which occurred April 26-27 simultaneously at Northwest Florida State College and two other locations.

"This is an incredible accomplishment," band director Jody Dunn said. "There will be very few concert bands in the state to achieve this."

The symphonic band scored all superior and "straight A" ratings, which Dunn called "an extremely rare and special achievement."

The symphonic band earned the Otto J. Kraushaar Award, the Florida Bandmasters Association’s highest honor, he said.

Crestview High School band members earned the opportunity to perform at state level after scoring "superior," the highest rating, earlier this spring during district competition in Pensacola.

The Big Red Machine is rehearsing for its annual spring concert, to be performed 7 p.m. May 16 in the high school's Pearl Tyner Auditorium.
