The Niceville boys basketball team came out firing Tuesday night, jumping on Robertsdale (Ala.) early and often to stamp its ticket for the finals of the Walton Thanksgiving Tournament.

Kirk Perry scored a game-high 22 points while Kyle Koszuta (13), Steve Dyson (10) and AJ Tillman (10) each finished in double-figures scoring to help lead the Eagles to a 74-51 win.

Niceville (2-0) will play in the tournament finals tonight at 6 p.m.

l Escambia Charter 66, Baker 65: Baker’s season-opener didn’t go quite as planned as 19 turnovers and poor shooting from the charity stripe spelled doom for the Gators (0-1), whom coach Mike Martello said “underestimated” their opponent.

Chad Donley scored a game-high 22 points for Baker while Jarrod Batson added 17 and Christian Mainor chipped in with 12.

Baker returns to action on Tuesday when it welcomes Northview to town for its District 1-2A opener.

l Calvary Christian 38, Poplar Springs 36: April Bailey drove the length of the floor and drilled the game-winner with three seconds left as Calvary Christian picked up its first win of the year in dramatic fashion.

Bailey and Rochelle Neau each finished with a game-high 12 points while Christina Pipersburg finished with 10. Calvary Christian (1-1) travels to Baker on Monday.

l Navarre 0, Pensacola 0: Anne Preston recorded five saves and Meghan Slaybaugh led a strong defensive effort as the Raiders (6-2-2) settled for a scoreless draw in its match with Pensacola (3-3-1). Navarre next hosts Arnold next Thursday.

 

Boys soccer

 

l Niceville 4, Tate 1: Noah Dutram tallied a goal and an assist in helping Niceville (3-1-1) dispatch of Tate on Tuesday night.

After setting up the game’s first goal on a goal by Spencer Vandecar, it was Dutram on the receiving end of an assist moments later. Tanner Duttweiler would later score on a penalty kick before Christian Fulmer banged home a goal on a feed from Evan Wright.

Anthony Provost and Scott Listak were each cited for strong defensive play for the Eagles. Niceville travels to Washington on Monday.
