East girls win PSA Soccer All-Star game

PENSACOLA - West Florida’s Miguel Santos produced a hat trick, and the West dominated the East 5-1 Friday night in the Subway High School All-Star Soccer Game at Ashton Brosnaham Park.

Santos’ performance earned him the Most Valuable Player award for the West team, which was made up of senior standouts from Escambia County. Seniors from Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties made up the East team.

Choctawhatchee’s Ricky Hoegg, a forward, was the MVP for the East after he scored the team’s lone goal on a high kick in the waning minutes of the second half.

In the girls’ game, Navarre’s Alex Herman accounted for both goals in the East’s 2-0 victory to earn MVP honors.

“I feel like we’ve all played with each other at some point, so we were all in the same frame of mind,” Herman said of her teammates. “Everyone did really well, so it was just fun.”

Washington High’s Diana Manis, a goalkeeper, earned the award for the West team after holding the East scoreless during her time in the game.

After a scoreless first half in the girls’ game, Herman struck early in the second half when she took a cross from Niceville’s Molly Everitt and snuck a short shot past the West goalkeeper.

Then with about eight minutes left to play, Herman sent a pass to Rocky Bayou Christian’s Katie Kaim for the final score.

In the boys’ game, Santos scored all three of his goals in the second half.

The first came just seconds after an East free kick was deflected to middle field. From there, Santos sped toward the goal, blowing past a defender and pulling the keeper out of the box to strike in an empty net.

Santos got his second goal in the game’s 57th minute when Escambia’s Ricky Henry found him on a cross. Henry found Santos again for the third goal with about 10 minutes left to play, and Santos faked out the keeper to score in the center of the net.

Christoph Zeller, of Tate, scored the first goal of the game off a corner kick from Tate’s Tyler Masteron, and Pace’s Dakota Freed scored the second goal off a pass from Zeller.
