FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida woman who stopped to help a motorist was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Louisiana.
Mikel Carson had just moved from Deerfield Beach to Louisiana for college when she tried to help the victim of another hit-and-run on a Baton Rouge highway.
Police say the 20-year-old was hurled 200 feet away after an SUV slammed into her.
Carson’s body wasn’t found for hours, because the woman she stopped to help also drove off.
Baton Rouge police believe they found the 2005 Ford Expedition that hit Carson on Friday in a body shop. However, they still haven’t located the driver.
