CRESTVIEW The Crestview Police Department has extended the administration office's hours, opening it 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays.

Police constantly patrolled the streets, despite a former office closure, but the office has begun opening on Fridays to allow residents more access to the administration, said Police Chief Tony Taylor, who started serving last October.

The hours change has no impact on the department's budget; personnel schedules were changed to allow for the extra office day, he said.

Additionally, Taylor is considering extending daily office hours after 5:30 p.m.

"In the future, I hope to have this office open 24 (hours a day) seven (days a week), 365 (days a year)," he said. "It's important to me that we are accessible to the public as much as we can be. Not only on an administrative level, but in the field as well.

"We are going to be a lot more open than it appears we were in the past."

No plans have been made for the 24-hour transition, which would require the department to assess the proposal's impact on the budget.
