BAKER — A 33-year-old is charged with possession of a short-barreled shotgun after barricading himself in a camper with a gun Sunday afternoon, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Deputies received a call around 2 p.m. that Joseph William Stromsness had a gun and was threatening to harm himself at 232 Charles Booker Road in Baker.

Stromsness barricaded himself, according to Michele Nicholson, a Sheriff’s Office spokesperson.

Deputies dispatched special response team and crisis negotiation units to the scene; they talked him out of the camper  by about 6:30 p.m. and he surrendered without injury, Nicholson said.

Stromsness is a suspect in an ongoing investigation in connection with a burglary and fraudulent use of credit card,  but no charges have been issued, Nicholson said.
