CRESTVIEW — Tuesday was a nice opening night for the Crestview High School girls soccer team as the Bulldogs hosted Rocky Bayou Christian in a match played at Davidson Middle School.

Ashley Parker, Ruby Webb and Hannah Nolan each scored goals ands Baylee O'Marra had a pair of assists off corner kicks as Crestview beat the Knights 3-1.

After graduating nine seniors from last year's team Bulldog Coach Carl Everitt was pleased with the opening night in a match that had many freshmen seeing their first high school action.

"As you can see, they knock (kick) it around very nicely," he said. They knock it around and they play OK. They were stringing passes together.

"There were sequences of play where there were four or five passes and it was very nice. We are going to be very good. But right now we've got a lot of young girls and sometimes it's deer in the headlights out there."

Parker gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead about 10 minutes into the match when she scored on an unassisted goal.

Fifteen minutes later O'Marra teamed with Webb for the second Bulldog goal and Crestview (1-0) had a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

The only Knight score of the match came midway through the second half when Crista Daughtry scored on an assist from Amber Grete. That would be as close as Rocky Bayou (0-1) would get.

With about 10 minutes left in the match O'Marra picked up her second assist of the night when she found Nolan for the final Bulldog score.

Everitt said the Bulldogs need to improve in three or four areas if they are to compete in a tough District 1-4A that includes powerhouses Navarre, Niceville and Pace.

"Heading has to be better," he said. "And we have to take advantage of it when we have the opportunity to shoot.

"It looks very pretty (moving the ball around), but pretty doesn't score goals. So we need to be a little bit sharper around the goal."
