CRESTVIEW ó The Okaloosa County School Board will contribute just more than $1 million to help keep deputies at all schools in the district.
The board has opted to increase its portion from $609,896 by $500,000 with the caveat it would be the final year that money not acquired through the Safe School fund will benefit school resource officers.
Additional funding, which will come from money in the districtís general fund reserves, will be added to money allocated to the district from the state through the Safe School fund, according to Rita Scallan, the districtís chief financial officer.
This is the second time the board voted to designate additional funding for resource officers. Members also provided money after Okaloosa County Sheriff Larry Ashley put SROs into all schools last year following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn.
